The Rose Senior Room
Ted's grandfather hybridized and grew Roses for cut flowers in the family owned and operated greenhouse in Decatur, IL. He held several patents for Roses, including Plant Patent number 2 for a Rose named Rose Senior. The original patent certificate and watercolor picture of Rose Senior are displayed in this room. Ted's father and uncle ran the business along with his grandfather for many years. Their families all lived on the property, so Ted learned all about growing roses and their care and the day to day operation of the business. Thus three generations of family involved in Roses.
Mary's Garden Room
This room is named after Sue's Mom who was a wonderful gardener and especially enjoyed raising flowers and vegetables of all kinds. She inherited her "green" thumb from her parents, who were hobby gardeners and in retirement had a greenhouse, growing vegetable and flowers plants from seeds organically. Sue learned much about gardening from her Mom and grandparents by helping in the green house and in their outdoor gardens as well. "Grandma Mary" was known for her wonderful jams and jellies made from the fruits in her garden and her beautiful and artistic flower arrangements.
